2007 PORSCHE 911 GT3 RS (4)

It was bred to perform at nine-tenths and above for longer than most drivers can endure.

All RS or RennSport 911s are made with extreme performance in mind, performance levels that can’t sensibly be explored on the road. Circling a race track is this car’s raison d’etre. In this environment, what really comes to the fore is the incredible strength of the engine and the depth of its vocal range, the precision of the short-shift gearbox, the power of almighty (non-carbon) brakes, and immense feel through both driver’s seat and steering wheel rim.

This early 997-series variant appeals as being more hardcore and more mechanical than many broader, faster supercars and can be more engaging and rewarding as a result. It all boils down to feel and high-level, high-speed communication.

It’s also a prodigious multi-tasker, comfortably doubling as a hard-edged road warrior. Being a still-relatively-compact 997, it can be threaded through traffic and along tight and twisties with supreme confidence. But while it’s always up for tackling any road or undertaking any journey, what it excels at – and does ten times better than anything else in the Keeper stable – is lapping up the smooth tarmac of a track.
