2007 PORSCHE 911 GT3 RS (5)

The GT3 RS represents the highest stage of 911 development before moving into a fully-fledged racing car.

Porsche describes the GT3 RS models as road-going athletes in racing suits. Compared with a GT3, the RS offers slightly more power, lower weight, shorter transmission ratios as well as body and suspension elements upgraded to an even higher standard.
Our car’s 25kg weight saving over a 997 GT3 is achieved by lighter components such as its titanium exhaust system, a single-mass flywheel, a rear window made of a special synthetic material, lightweight door and rear centre panels, and a rear wing made of composite materials.
A key contributor to the RS engine’s free-revving nature is the single-mass flywheel. It allows the flat-six to rev up faster and offer greater potential for fast acceleration. It also results in a 7kg reduction in weight compared with the two-mass flywheel on the 911 GT3 of the same era.
At first sight the GT3 RS demonstrates its close connection with motorsport through the low suspension, central bolts on the wheels, the large rear wing made of carbon-fibre, purpose-built front and rear sections, and a dual central tailpipe made of titanium.
Typical features of the purist interior are the lightweight door panels with traditional door opening straps, a special RS sports steering wheel, and various carbon components.
